Three Times Three
Shadow X3 is a composition resulting from a series of experiments with color diffraction, there are three movements in the piece. The first movement is the actual un-processed rendering of the composition. The second movement is a symmetrical "flip" using four layers composited in post production. The third movement is a color, contrast and focus enhancement of the original rendering.
This composition series is inspired by Monet's studies of Rouen Catherdral. All color in Shadow X3 is created directly through optical simulation algorithms using commercial software.
Shadow X3 is a silent Lumia composition.
Runtime is approximately 21 minutes.
Untitled was composed and screened at the CVM Visual Music Festival in Philadelphia in June of last year. The visual composition was inspired by the music.
"Elegy For Iraq" is composed and performed by Dr. Franklin Morris; a pioneer in electronic music.

Mirror Mirror is a portrait Lumia in which the viewer can project and imagine whatever angels or demons they may see in the changing image before them.

| The Visual Music of Digital Lumia and Synaesthesia
Digital Lumia owes its very existence to pure inspiration from seeing the work of the 20th Century Lumia artist, Thomas Wilfred. Mr. Wilfred's compositions were performed in concerts and exhibited as light sculptures throughout the United States and Europe. They were always silent -- visual music. Mr. Wilfred intended that participants interpret the imagery synaesthetically - what the eye saw in the composition, triggered the mind to create the complementary or contrasting sound, flavor, texture or feeling. There was no narrative, as such, although WIlfred's pieces could evoke fantastic landscapes, futuristic cities, elegant gardens or the most primitive, primal moments.
My work builds on that tradition and brings it into a contemporary cultural context to inspire and stimulate each participant to discover and create their own visions, stories and emotions within.
Digital Lumia is created by using optical simulation algorithms and software to construct virtual optical machines. The elements within each machine are adjusted over time so that a visual sequence of changes in color, refraction, reflection and shadow is composed. The resulting sequence is tested with key frames, then rendered in one of several resolution and file formats available for output.
